Essentially, puppy rooms are exactly what they sound likeâ"a room full of puppies! Puppy rooms have specific visiting hours when students can come and visit with the dogs; whether they want to pet them, cuddle with them, play with them, or just simply watch them itâs absolutely up to the students. Most colleges and universities will have a sign-in sheet and some volunteers monitoring the room to ensure both dogs and students are enjoying their time. Why Puppy Rooms? It should be noted that puppy rooms arenât necessarily full of puppies; many of these are adult therapy dogs or therapy dogs in training, and often times dogs of all ages from local shelters are brought over for some quality time with the students. This doesnât only benefit the students but the dogs as well since many are craving human affection while waiting to be adopted to a forever home. In mathematics, youll see many references about numbers. Numbers can be classified into groups and initially it may seem somewhat perplexing but as you work with numbers throughout your education in math, they will soon become second nature to you. Youll hear a variety of terms being thrown at you and youll soon be using those terms with great familiarity yourself. You will also soon discover that some numbers will belong to more than one group. For instance, a prime number is also an integer and a whole number. Here is a breakdown of how we classify numbers: Natural Numbers Natural numbers are what you use when you are counting one to one objects. You may be counting pennies or buttons or cookies. When you start using 1,2,3,4 and so on, you are using the counting numbers or to give them a proper title, you are using the natural numbers. Whole Numbers Whole numbers are easy to remember. Theyre not fractions, theyre not decimals, theyre simply whole numbers. The only thing that makes them different than natural numbers is that we include the zero when we are referring to whole numbers. However, some mathematicians will also include the zero in natural numbers and Im not going to argue the point. Ill accept both if a reasonable argument is presented. Whole numbers are 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on. Integers Integers can be whole numbers or they can be whole numbers with a negative sign in front of them. Individuals often refer to integers as the positive and negative numbers. Integers are -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on. Rational Numbers Rational numbers have integers AND fractions AND decimals. Now you can see that numbers can belong to more than one classification group. Rational numbers can also have repeating decimals which you will see be written like this: 0.54444444... which simply means it repeats forever, sometimes you will see a line drawn over the decimal place which means it repeats forever, instead of having a ...., the final number will have a line drawn above it. Irrational Numbers Irrational numbers dont include integers OR fractions. However, irrational numbers can have a decimal value that continues forever WITHOUT a pattern, unlike the example above. An example of a well known irrational number is pi which as we all know is 3.14 but if we look deeper at it, it is actually 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419.....and this goes on for somewhere around 5 trillion digits! Real Numbers Here is another category where some other of the number classifications will fit. Real numbers include natural numbers, whole numbers, integers, rational numbers and irrational numbers. Real numbers also include fraction and decimal numbers. In summary, this is a basic overview of the number classification system, as you move to advanced math, you will encounter complex numbers. Ill leave it that complex numbers are real and imaginary.

Tagore, a leader of the Brahmo Samaj, a religious sect in nineteenth-century Bengal which attempted a revival of Hinduism as laid down in theà Upanishads. He was educated at home; and although at seventeen he was sent to England for formal schooling, he did not finish his studies there, In addition to his many-sided literary activities, he managed the family estates, which brought him into close touch with common humanity and increased his interest in social reforms. He also started an experimental school at Shantiniketan,West Bengal where he tried his Upanishadic ideals of education. The tremendous excitement and cultural richness of his extended familyà permitted young Rabindranath to learn subconsciously at his own pace, giving him a dynamic open model of education, which he later tried to recreate in his school. He found his outside formal schooling to be inferior and boring and, after a brief exposure to several schools, he refused to attend school. We will write a custom essay sample on Rabindranath Tagore or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The only degrees he ever received were honorary ones bestowed late in life. As one of the earliest educators to think in terms of the global village, Tagoreââ¬â¢s educational model has a unique sensitivity within multi-racial, multi-lingual and multi-cultural situations, amidst conditions of economic discrepancy and political imbalance. Tagores education marked a novel blending of the ideas of the East and West. The spiritualism of Indian philosophy and progressive outlook of the western people were blended together to give rise to an educational philosophy which marked its distinction. Some of the highlights of his philosophy were Nature the Best Teacher: Tagore believed that nature is the best teacher to the pupil. Nature will provide the student with necessary situations to earn knowledge. No pressure should be exerted upon the student to learn any thing. It is nature which will be the guiding force to inculcate the spirit of learning in the mind of a student to pursue the education he likes. It will shape his behaviour and character. * Goodbye to bo ok-centered education: For the first time in the field of education, Tagore established a new mile-stone. With boldness and firmness, he rejected a book-centered education for students. To him it is not just to confine the mind of boys and girls to text-books only. It would kill the natural instincts of a student as well as his creative skills . * Freedom to learner: Tagore had championed the cause of freedom which he wanted to implement in the field of education. With that objective he opened Shantiniketan, Sri Niketan and Brahmachari Ashram. Accordingly, he gave free choice to students to develop their interest in any field they like. He explained freedom in three-categorized ways i. e. freedom of heart, freedom of intellect and freedom of will. Education imparted in a natural way will lead to the fulfillment of these three freedoms. * Teaching practical and real: According to Tagore, teaching should not be artificial and theoretical. As a naturalist, Tagore laid emphasis on the practicality of education thereby increasing the creative skill within a learner. As a result, the student will be a master in his own field but not a slave to mere theoretical knowledge. Place of fine arts (dance, drama, music, poetry etc). : Tagore attached great importance to the fine arts in his educational curriculum. To him, game, dance, music, drama, painting etc. should form a part of educational process. Students should take active part in these finer aspects of human life for these are very essential to enrich soul. In his words Speaking is for mankind whereas music is a mystic and expressive medium. That is why; speaking creates nearness between man and man, while music helps us to identify ourselves with nature. Education for rural reconstruction: Tagore was aware about the rural poverty of our country. So, he wanted to eradicate it through education. The practical training imparted in different crafts and vocation to the students will make them skilled artisans in their field. I feel that many of his ideas on education hold good even today. We can identify many similarities in the new curriculum as the comprehensive continuous evaluation which have been followed in schools under the CBSE.

Theories of Human Values essays 1. Erik Erikson is responsible for developing the epigenetic principle. This principle is a stage theory that describes human development and growth from birth to death. Unlike Freud's stage theory, Erikson's epigenetic principle extends into adulthood and describes the theories through which one must pass in order to develop psychosocially. Each of Erikson's stages has an optimal time frame during which it occurs. The stage consists of a challenge, or "crisis" that the individual must resolve in order to develop as a healthy person. The stages are progressed through in sequence, with the initial stage dealing with the development of trust as an infant, and the final stage (in old age) posing the challenge of integrity versus despair. The first stage of the epigenetic principle is the trust/mistrust dichotomy that appears shortly after birth and typically lasts until age one. In this period, the infant is faced with the crisis of developing trust (appropriately), usually trust in the mother. In the second stage, from about two to three-years-old, the toddler goes through a stage of autonomy versus shame. If resolved in a healthy manner, the child will learn autonomy and move into the stage of initiative versus guilt. This stage typically lasts from age three to six. The stage of industry versus inferiority is typical of children from six to twelve years old and is resolved in a healthy manner by learned industriousness. The final stage before adulthood is one of identity versus role diffusion in the teenage years. The "identity crisis" that can develop in youth is symptomatic of an unresolved challenge in this stage. According to Erikson, adults also progress through stages of development that take them from an intimacy/isolation crisis in their 20s, through a generativity/stagnation challenge in middle age to a final crisis The epigen...

Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO) Although the term is sometimes used loosely to refer to any factory farm, Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO) is a designation by the United States Environmental Protection Agency meaning any operation in which animals are fed in confined spaces, but specifically those which store a large number of animals and produce a large amount of water and manure waste as well as contributing pollutants to the surrounding environment. The disambiguation of the term CAFO from AFO can be a bit confusing, but the main focus of the distinction lies in the size and impact of the operation, with CAFO being worse all around - which is why it is often associated with all factory farms, even if they dont meet EPA standards to qualify as a CAFO. The Legal Definition According to the EPA, an Animal Feeding Operation (AFO) is an operation in which animals are kept and raised in confined situations. AFOs congregate animals, feed, manure and urine, dead animals, and production operations on a small land area. Feed is brought to the animals rather than the animals grazing or otherwise seeking feed in pastures, fields, or on rangeland. CAFOs are AFOs that fall under one of the EPAs definitions of Large, Medium or Small CAFOs, depending on the number of animals involved, how wastewater and manure are managed, and whether the operation is a significant contributor of pollutants. Although nationally accepted as a federal mandate, state governments can choose whether or not to enforce punishments and restrictions the EPA sets on these facilities. However, a repeated lack of complianceà with EPA regulations or repeat excessive pollution from factory farms could result in a federal case against the company in question. The Problem with CAFO Animal rights activists and environmentalists alike argue against the continued use of factory farms, especially those that qualify under the EPA as Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations. These farms produce an inordinate amount of pollution and animal waste as well as consuming large amounts of crops, manpower, and energy to maintain.à Furthermore, the harsh conditions animals kept in these CAFO are often seen as violating the basic rights U.S. citizens believe animals are entitled to - although the Animal Welfare Actà excludes farms from classification and investigation from their agencies.à Another issue with commercial animal farming is that the population of cattle, chickens, and pigs cannot be maintained at the current rate of global consumption. Either the food used to nourish cows to edible health will disappear or the cattle themselves will be overeaten and eventually go the way of the Wooly Mammoth - extinct.
